A new page for May: Osage County, part of the continuing effort to let non-Okies in on the secrets of Osage County, has begun. Today, it centers on the joys of peewee rodeo. Of course, May is also marked by many other events besides the earnest onset of rodeo season. It is also the month for wicked, alive weather. Twice in the past week, we have had to evacuate our home due to tornadoes. The police chatter on my scanners has been nearly overrun by storm chasers, especially today, when conditions are ripe for huge hail, high winds and, yes, tornadoes.
In any case, I am on my way to Gray Horse, so if I see anything exciting on the prairie I will update the new page with THAT part of Okie life.
For now, you get rodeo. Click on the page May: Oage County, to your right.
One of the things I have not discussed (along with a zillion others) is the purpose of this website. I intended for it to serve as a town crier for obituaries and breaking news when needed, little else. I operate a newspaper, not a website! But the fact of life and death is, when you rely on a weekly paper for news, that if you die on Wednesday and are buried on Tuesday, your obituary is going to come out after you are in the ground. Hence the website.
That said, someone posted this site as a fave at thepioneerwoman.com, the Osage County's most notable website.
Thanks to that post, I am posting this week's edition of Crime Scene, typos and all. Maybe someone will pity me and offer to proofread! (This week's best is the cop asking the defendant how much she had to drive. Uh, I meant drink.)
Just this week! I know you...if I put it up here every week you wouldn't buy the paper and Marlyn and I would starve along with our advertisers.
Click on the link and the page will download. It's a pdf, nothing sinister. You will notice that a mugshot is missing if you have the real newspaper: I made a mistake and included a mug of a woman who has the same last name in the Mary Deroin case. Mary Deroin has an outstanding warrant and has not been booked.
The mugshot deletion likely befuddled the layout a tad. i've already had my fill of page layout this week and am in no mood to either look at it or work on it. Bleagh!
Cheers
Louise
