KAREN KELLY SMITH passed away Sunday, December 7, 2008 at her home in Pawhuska, Oklahoma. She was 51 years old.
Karen was born February 27, 1957 in Tulsa, Oklahoma, the daughter of Linford "Doc" and JoAnn (Shunkamolah) Smith. Following graduation from high school, she attended Central Vo Tech in Drumright, Oklahoma, where she received her LPN degree. A member of the Osage Tribe of Indians, Karen enjoyed finger weaving and doing ribbon work. She was also a member of a pool league.
She is survived by: Her daughter: Junitress Smith of Hominy, OK; Her brother: Stanley Smith; and a host of other family and friends. Karen was preceded in death by her parents and numerous aunts and uncles.
Traditional Indian services will be held Wednesday, December 10, at 10:00 AM in the Hominy Indian Village Community Center, Hominy, OK. Dr. Steven Pratt, PhD, Shunkamolah Chapter of the Native American Indian Church, will officiate. Interment will be in the A.J. Powell Memorial Cemetery, Hominy, OK.
