DAPHNE J. WISE passed away in her home Wednesday, January 14, 2009.
She was born November 14, 1919 in Cleveland, Oklahoma, to Oliver "Skinny" and Lila E. (Galbraith) Henson. They moved to Pawhuska when she was 4 years old. She graduated from Pawhuska High School with the Class of 1939. Daphne married George Muir Wise on January 25, 1942.
Daphne was very active and supportive in the school and community. She was very active in the St. Thomas Episcopal Church. After graduation, she worked for the Bartlesville Examiner, Pawhuska Journal-Capital, and was the bookkeeper for her husband and brother-in-law at Wise & Co. She also worked at the Osage County Historical Society Museum, the Osage County Nutrition Program, the Pawhuska Chamber of Commerce and Hub Clothiers.
Her passion was sewing and cooking. The family was never allowed to touch her sewing machine nor were they allowed in the kitchen while she was cooking. Daphne served as the seamstress for the Pawhuska Community Theater. She loved just having her family around as much as possible.
She is survived by: Two daughters: Mary E. Jech and Vannah M. Wise, both of the home; two grandchildren: Stewart Conner and wife, Andrea; Theresa Maxwell and husband, Chuck, all of Pawhuska; Five great grandchildren: Michael, Miranda, Ashton and Joseph Conner; and
Clayton Maxwell; Three great-great grandchildren: Rylee, Kaylynn and Kaitlynn; Her sister: Billie Campbell; Three nephews: Walter, Mike and Jon Campbell and their families; One very special adopted son: James Hager and wife, Alma; And a host of other family, god children and friends. Daphne was preceded in death by her parents, her husband and a son.
Funeral services will be held Tuesday, January 20, at 10:00 AM at St. Thomas Episcopal Church, Pawhuska. Interment will be in the Pawhuska City Cemetery.
