Lila Jeannine Cass Dooling, 60, of Skiatook and former resident of Pawhuska, passed away at her home, October 30, 2009.
Born in Pawnee, Oklahoma, March 24, 1949, the eighth child to Charles Arthur “Roy A” and Myrtle Daniels Cass of Fairfax, Oklahoma, Lila was member of the Osage Tribe of Indians, from the Grayhorse District. Her Indian name was "HIn-KE MOn-KE".
Lila was active in the Osage culture, holding a position as cook on the Grayhorse Committee, where her nephew, Robert Phillip "Bobby" Harris, was Drumkeeper. She was an elder in her family. According to her, in June, "All
roads lead to Grayhorse", no matter where you are. During her time in high school, she was active in track, softball and cheerleading. She received her education at Pawhuska and Nelagoney schools.
Lila married Melvin L. Dooling of Skiatook, Oklahoma, and they made their home between Skiatook and Hominy, where they both loved to fish. As a younger sister, the older brothers and sisters always wanted to protect her. She loved playing Bingo and going on road trips with her sisters when she could. She liked sewing, cooking and making things of her Culture. She loved laughing, talking and always wanted to know all about the news you might have to tell. Her nephews could tell her the tales she liked to hear on adventures they had been on or were going to do.
Survivors include: 3 sons: John Lynn Hanna, of Skiatook, Ok.; Robert Edward Hanna and wife of Green Bay Wisconsin; James Andrew Hanna, of Skiatook, OK; Daughter: Melissa Anne and husband, Nick Fleener, also of Skiatook, OK; 14 grandchildren and 1 great granddaughter. Lila was preceeded in death by sisters Edna Cass Conley, Charlotte “Joe” Cass Fowler and Sarah Anne Cass; brothers Jim Maxwell Cass and Charles “Chock” Cass; her parents, grandparents and nephews, Bruce and Eddie Cass.
Lila will lie in state in the Bill and Edwina Lynn home, in Pawhuska, Ok. Services will be 9 am November 3, 2009 at the Lynn home. Burial will be in the A.J. Powell Memorial Cemetery, Hominy.
