In Barnsdall, the rural vote stretched out the incumbent's 22-vote lead within the city to a 168-114 victory in the Barnsdall School Board election on Tuesday night.
In Pawhuska, where four candidates jostled for one spot, the incumbent also led, but not by enough to retain his seat without a run-off.
And in Wynona. a small number of voters turned out to approve of a $125,000 bond issue to install new heating and air conditioning in their school. The final vote tally: 53 yes, 25 no.
In Barnsdall, incumbent Fred Williams defeated first-time school board candidate Jeff Salamy 168-114. The city precinct had rancher Williams winning but in a tighter race, against the father of three, according to the 129-107 tally posted at City Hall.
Pawhuska’s school race hosted a crowd of four candidates, three of them seeking to unseat incumbent David Clifton. Clifton was the top vote getter with 249 votes, with Tom Boone coming in second with 190. The two will face off again in an April 6 runoff. Out of the race are Sheila Sweeden, who garnered 179 votes, and Penny Bradford, with 48 votes.
And in what almost appeared to be a stealth election, Pawhuska welcomes two new city council members to its ranks: Former at-large councilor Cathy Worten and retired Navy Seal Doug Doughty, who will replace Wally Pace and Bob Corley on the board.
Worten and Doughty filed unopposed for the council seats in January and the Election Board sent information about the race only to the Pawhuska Journal-Capital.
